Accession consists of records created and/or maintained by the British Columbia Regional Office of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada and its predecessors. Predecessors include: the Thompson River District Office, the Kamloops Agency, the Nicola Agency, the Babine District Office, the Babine Agency, the Southern Interior Education District Office, the Lytton Agency, the Fraser District Office, and the Thompson River District Office
The accession includes, but is not limited to records relating to: organization and administration, the Indian Act, liaison, treaties, school establishment, itineraries of officials, ethnological, anthropological and historical research, miscellaneous federal and provincial legislation, headquarters establishment, operating staff, residential schools, committees, and plans and planning; band management, including membership, elections, minutes of council, deputations, complaints and petitions, by laws - band council, claims and disputes, and contracts and agreements; trust funds, including trust account statements, savings, salaries - band officials and casual employment, budgets and authorities for expenditures, band property insurance, Winter Works Incentive Program, and management of band funds under Section 69 - Indian Act; miscellaneous buildings and projects, including council or community hall, churches, sawmill projects, band buildings, and handicraft shop; engineering services, including water supply system, bridges, flood and water control, government contracts and specifications, irrigation, electric power services, roads, wharves, waterways, water licences, sewage disposal systems, and physical planning of communities; reports and returns, including band membership returns; transport, including agency motor vehicles; welfare and social development, including family allowances, housing, funerals, and care of children; leases; individual land holdings; sale of land; miscellaneous land matters, including maps and plans, school land, cemetery sites, parks and playgrounds, and range and pasture land; individual case files, including enfranchisements, mentally incompetent, guardianship cases, and miscellaneous cases; property damage and protection, including fire protection, fire loss, and forest and prairie fires; statistics, including public assistance, census record, and vital; and finances, including accounting and debts.
