Fonds consists of textual records and photographs documenting Keith Richan's involvement in the International Labour Organization (ILO) and in promoting the ILO and international labour issues in Canada and abroad. Photographs document Canadian and other delegations to the ILO's annual conference in Geneva, receptions and dinners held during the annual conference, ILO conferences and meetings, and a reception hosted by F.K. Richan in June 1981 upon his retirement as President of the International Organization of Employers (IOE). Textual records include speeches by F. K. Richan to the annual ILO conference in Geneva, correspondence related to Keith Richan's involvement in the ILO, provisional records of the conference, reports written by F. K. Richan on the conferences, an article on international labour relations published by F. K. Richan in the SA Builder (South Africa), a copy of the certificate of the Nobel Prize awarded to the ILO in 1969, and a listing of Canadian employer participation at the ILO conference and on its governing body from 1919 to 2007.

Richan, Keith, 1913- : Born in Montreal on 5 February 1913, Frederick Keith Richan studied at McGill University then joined the Canadian Marconi Company as a factory worker. He left the company as Manager, Personnel Relations in 1945 in order to accept a position with Philips Electronics in Toronto. He retired from his role as Vice-President, Industrial Relations at Philips Electronics in 1978 to establish his own consulting company in the field of personnel and labour relations. From 1968 to 1989, F. Keith Richan participated in various activities of the International Labour Organization (ILO), a tripartite specialized agency of the United Nations represented by government, worker and employer delegates from member states. He represented Canada as an employer delegate to the annual conference in Geneva on numerous occasions between 1968 and 1989. From 1969 to 1981, Keith Richan served as a member of the ILO Governing Body representing Business. In 1980, he held the position of Employer Vice-President of the ILO Conference and in 1980-1981, he was the President of the International Organization of Employers (IOE) in Geneva. In Canada, F.K. Richan is a recognized leader on international labour issues, having played an active role in the Canadian Employers Council between 1966 and 1986. He was also a key player in launching a pilot project to provide workplace training designed to help workers obtain their high school certification and attend community college, and he held an appointment on the Council of Regents during the formative years of the community college system in Ontario.
