The series documents several literary friendships Davies maintained over his lifetime. This literary correspondence demonstrates the wit and skill of its authors. Davies' relationships with Canadian writer Mavis Gallant, British scholar and author John Julius Norwich and American authors John Espey and John Irving are documented in these letters.

This series demonstrates Davies' place within the Canadian literary and theatrical scenes. Davies received correspondence from authors Margaret Atwood, Hugh MacLennan, Mordecai Richter, John Ralston Saul, Judith Skelton Grant, J.B. Priestly; actors John Gielgud, Hume Cronyn, Raymond Massey and Goldie Semple; photographer Yousuf Karsh; publisher Lovat Dickson; University of Toronto president Claude Bissell: Stratford directors Tyrone Guthrie and Richard Monette and Governor-General Vincent Massey among many others.

Series includes correspondence with Davies' publishers and agents. It includes material on organizations with which he was involved, such as the Folio Society, the Stratford Festival and Massey College. Also contains correspondence from therapist Lulie Westfeldt, brother-in-law Tass Drysdale, and even Davies' children's camp counselors.

The series also contains manuscript and typescript drafts and notes for many of the public lectures Davies gave, such as "Fiction of the Future," "Lewis Carroll in the Theatre" and "Reflections on Golden Age." It contains research and publicity material, fan letters, and numerous clippings of interest to Davies.

This series follows the original order of material received from Davies' study at Windhover after his death. File titles are largely Davies' own while titles assigned by the archivist are indicated with square brackets.
