The sous-fonds consists of the records of the McGill University project site, particularly regarding the administration of the project, research, and editing of the volumes. The administrative files include project correspondence (vol. 66), conference files (vols. 66-67), personnel files (vol. 68), and financial records (vol. 67). For volume I (vols. 69-70), the sous-fonds contains comments on author texts, correspondence with authors and editors, and working and final versions of the table of contents, editors' introduction, chronology, and other apparatus. Manuscripts and proofs are also present in the sous-fonds, which includes records for both the English and French editions. Researchers should also consult the Editorial series and Project Director-Patricia Fleming series in the University of Toronto office sous-fonds, and the Ville de Québec site sous-fonds for related material.

The sous-fonds holds extensive records for both the English and French editions of volume II (vols. 71-78), including files of editorial correspondence; minutes of editorial meetings; project protocols; statistical research and analysis; research on public library legislation; author files (correspondence, drafts and versions of texts); manuscripts and page proofs; work on apparatus such as preliminary materials, bibliography, and indexes; preparation for peer review; name authority work; and French and English translations. Researchers should also consult the editorial series in the main Toronto fonds. Sample editorial files are also found in the Dalhousie University - Fiona A. Black sous-fonds. Volume III is less well-documented. There are texts annotated by Yvan Lamonde and commentaries on the introductions (vols. 78-79). Some of the McGill University site records are preserved in digital form.

Lamonde, Yvan, 1944- : Yvan Lamonde, a professor in the Département de langue et littérature françaises at McGill University, established the McGill University project site in 2000. Lamonde was co-General Editor of the series, along with Patricia Fleming, and French editor of Volumes I and II. He also directed the Base de données sur les Catalogues canadiens relatifs à l'imprimé/Canadian Book Catalogues (CCRI/CBC). The McGill site employed numerous graduate research assistants and several post-doctoral fellows, among them Sophie Montreuil and Éric Leroux. The site hosted the Volume II Open Conference in May 2001 and played a major role in the organization of the Volume II Author Conference at Regina in August 2003. The site also administered scholarships (bourses) in book history which were funded by McGill.
