LAURENT GOES TO WASHINGTON is a documentary that tells the story of St. Laurent, a Metis community situated along the eastern shores of Lake Manitoba. In 2004, chosen by the Smithsonian Institute, the Metis community of St. Laurent was given an opportunity to create, develop and present an exhibit for the newly created National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. The documentary illustrates the development of the exhibit, which, among other things, includes a "Bombardier," a tank-like, heated snow vehicle used by the Mechif for ice fishing. By means of interviews and voice-over narration, interesting and colourful video clips, images and artifacts, the film, at the same time, describes the culture, history, lifestyle and heritage of Metis people throughout their homeland in the Great Northern Plains - Canada. <48mn 50s>Language:English / French / Mechif with English subtitlesNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
