Part of a program in a local CBC Ottawa television series. Lucian Bicci interviews film archivist Bill Galloway of the National Film Archives about a selection of historical sound films he's brought with him for screening. The following clips are shown: The opening of the Schreiber-Nippissing highway, now part of the Trans-Canada Highway, by the Honourable C.D. Howe, the federal Minister of Supplies, and the Honourable Peter Heenan, the Ontario Minister of Lands and Forests. After a short speech by Howe, a motorcade comprised of local inhabitants drives over the highway with a honking of horns. Shots of the ceremonial singing of "O Canada" with the Union Jack fluttering above the gathering. Excerpt from the feature film THE VIKING, by Varrick Frissell, showing scenes of a Newfoundland seal hunt on the ice floes and seals being shot. In the next clip, Foster Hewitt interviews the players and coaches of the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team. "Ching" Johnson and "Red" Horner are interviewed. There is a scene from a game between the Montreal Maroons and the Maple Leafs, with commentary by Hewitt. A clip from a documentary short by Associated Screen News filmmaker Gordon Sparling, about flour for baking. Shots of the Red Rose flour production plant and its products . <9mn>
