IMMIGRANT is a low-budget feature, written, directed, and produced by Bojan Bodruzic. Divided in nine non-chronological chapters, the film tells two stories about Bosnian immigrants in Canada, in the aftermath of the war (1992-1995). The first story is about Bojan, an aspiring young filmmaker, and his Canadian girlfriend, Emily. One summer, Bojan and Emily decide to travel to Sarajevo, Bojan's native city, where he intends to work on his new film project. Emily sees this as a great opportunity to learn more about her boyfriend's culture and to get closer to him. The exact opposite happens, however, as neither Bojan nor Emily are able to handle the collision of the two distant worlds. The second story is about Enko, a disillusioned immigrant who lost his wife in the war. Enko is struggling to find a compromise between his new reality in Canada and his relentless memories that haunt him when he is awake and when he is dreaming. Enko, however, remains in the constant state of physically and emotionally draining in-between-ness. Filmed on location in Vancouver (Canada), Sarajevo (Bosnia-Herzegovina), Dubrovnik (Croatia), and Prague (Czech Republic), the film is not about cities or countries. It is about people who live in them and the relationships that they build between themselves and their worlds.
