THIS SPACE FOR RENT is a half hour comedy television series about three reasonably intelligent roomates and their friends sharing a flat in downtown Vancouver. In this pilot episode, we meet Lucky Carroway, recent college-graduate and, undoubtedly, nice guy. We are introduced to Lucky on the unluckiest day of his life - the day he loses his literary agent, his shot at success, and all of his life enthusiasm. Lucky becomes a self-deprecating recluse thriving on cigarettes, television, and cynicism - things that can only lead to him alienating his friends. We also meet Iona Goldenthal, a recent law school graduate who works at the ultra-macho, sickeningly phalocentric firm of Blakey, Coleman and Associates. How long is Iona going to be able to handle staying there? Another roomate, Barnaby Sharpe, a frustrated actor who reads Dostoyevsky but who cannot sing, gets a job at a chain coffee restaurant called Jareheads, a place where mediocrity and singing are the order of the day. Finally, we meet Elliott Hayden who has to juggle the demands of being a children's English as a Second Language teacher with the ideology of night-clubbing. The rest of the plot involves relationship troubles, hate letters to Vancouver Magazine, and a neon pig sign - "Pinky" - Lucky's most prized confidante.<45mn 2s>
