Fonds consists of correspondence, memoranda, notes, reports, speeches, itineraries, grey literature, and other material, all of which document O'Brien's early involvement with the Liberal Party in Calgary and Toronto. The records shed light on his activities as a federal campaign organizer and a political-appointments insider. They also touch on the development of party policy and strategy, Liberal participation in the Prairie Conference on National Problems in 1964, the challenges facing the federal Liberals in Alberta, and the Prime Minister's national campaign tour in 1965. As well, the fonds provides an important behind-the-scenes glimpse at the efforts of Keith Davey, Jim Coutts, and other Liberal activists to revitalize the Liberal Party and to respond to the new organizational and policy challenges of the 1960s. The files have been arranged in a single series: Liberal Party of Canada Series.
