Description:

Animated film with live action sequences. Winsor McCay, George McManus, Roy McCardell and others visit a museum and see a dinosaur. McCay bets McManus he can make the dinosaur live through cartoons. Six months later we see McCay finishing work on 10,000 individual drawings. At a dinner party McCay presents the animated film entitled GERTIE THE DINOSAUR, in which he asks Gertie, through intertitles, to follow certain actions. In live action again, after dinner, the guests pay their bets to McCay.

1. Purchased by the Canadian Film Institute on 15 June 1972.~2. McCay made the animated film in 1909 and himself provided the voiceover narration. On 28 December 1914 it was reissued by Box Office Attraction Co. and included the live action sequences of McCay and others. This information is from Moving Picture World, Volume 22, 1914, p. 1863.~3. Winsor McCay, the creator of this film, died in 1934.
