Unedited interview of actor Tom Harvey about his experiences working in live television for the CBC. The interview is for a two-hour documentary entitled LIVE TO AIR, broadcast on CBC television on 16 September 2002. Among the subjects discussed are: how he started working in television; appearing in the Royal Canadian Navy’s Navy Show during World War Two and the production MEET THE NAVY; attending Lorne Greene’s Academy of Radio Arts in Toronto for more than a year; fellow students James Doohan, Alfie Scopp and Leslie Nielsen; auditioning for television; auditioning for THE HITCHHIKER; the small pool of actors at the time; often being cast rather than having to audition; trying to get work on television; feeling nervous about working in live television; the stress of making sure that a live television program ended on time; rehearsals; actors forgetting their lines; mishaps with animals on television shows; television productions he was in, including THE WRECKER with actress Charmion King; appearing in dramas written by Bernard Slade; working with child actors; memorable television plays; the best part about working in the days of live television; his appreciation of getting steady work and not minding doing smaller roles. <51mn 53s>

Some replies are rephrased at the request of the interviewer in order to create complete replies since the interviewer’s questions are edited out for the documentary.~4. Videotape available for consultation on LAC premises.~5. Second of two items on the same Betacam SX tape as the interview of Norman Campbell.~6. No clips of Harvey appear in the LIVE TO AIR documentary.~7. There is no transcript of this interview but there are some brief notes available.
