Unedited interview of singer Robert Goulet about his experiences working in live television for the CBC. The interview is for a two-hour documentary entitled LIVE TO AIR, broadcast on CBC television on 16 September 2002. Among the subjects discussed are: how he started working in television; singing on the CBC radio series SINGING STARS OF TOMORROW; studying music; working as a disc jockey in Edmonton; various shows he was on; the musical SUNSHINE TOWN, written by Mavor Moore; working with Shirley Harmer and Joyce Sullivan on SHOWTIME; forgetting song lyrics; mishaps during live television; some of his appearances on American television shows; appearing on the Canadian version of HOWDY DOODY; losing the audio during a song; a horse licking him while he was trying to sing a Western song; Howard Cable calling Goulet a big kid; his sense of humour; the production crews; performers with whom he worked, including Peter Mews, Paul Kligman, Dave Broadfoot and Lloyd Bochner; the excitement and camaraderie of working in the early days of CBC television; the end of the series SHOWTIME; the reserved nature of Canadian fans when they see him out in public; and trying to sing They Call the Wind Mariah while a wind machine is blowing at him and a rain machine is blowing water at him. <49mn 10s>

1. This is a Betacam SX dub of originals shot on Betacam SP tapes 5 and 6.~2. The Canadian Broadcast Museum holds the Betacam SP originals.~3. Production date of the Betacam originals (date interview conducted) is 2002-06-06.~4. Betacam SX tape dubbed at CBC on 2002-06-10.~5. Some replies are rephrased at the request of the interviewer in order to create complete replies since the interviewer’s questions are edited out for the documentary.~6. Videotape and transcript available for consultation on LAC premises.~7. There are colour bars at approximately 30 minutes into the tape.~8. Approximately 10 seconds of audio ends after the closing colour bars start at 49 minutes.~9. Robert Goulet died on 30 October 2007 at age 73.
