Fonds consists of central registry files created and accumulated by the Canadian Film Development Corporation. The majority of these files are operational records that document the various activities of the CFDC. Activities represented are national film policy making, subsidies to the industry, and film awards. Canadian Film Development Corporation : The Canadian Film Development Corporation was established in 1967 by the Canadian Film Devlopment Corporation Act. The objective of the Corporation was to assist in the promotion and development of the Canadian film, television and new media industry in Canada. The Corporation fostered Canadian creative expression in these sectors through both commercial and industrial means. Known commercially since 1983 as Telefilm Canada, the Canadian Film Development Corporation was officially renamed Telefilm Canada in 1984 (by the 1983 National Film and Video Policy) but its responsibilities continued as before.

Telefilm Canada also provides development, production and marketing financing to projects; diversified financial support to companies; support for the training and professional development activities of the industry as a whole; certification of official co-productions; and input into the federal government's development of policies

Since 1994 Telefilm Canada has reported to Parliament through the Department of Canadian Heritage. Prior to that date, Telefilm reported to Parliament through the Department of Communications. Telefilm Canada has had a Chairman of the Board and and Executive Director since it began in 1968. The first Chairman of the Board was Georges-Émile Lapalme (February 1968- November 1969) and the first Executive Director was Michael Spencer (April 1968-February 1969: Acting Secretary, March 1969-April 1978: Executive Director). 206825
