Accession consists of 2 paintings by Alfred Pellan, titled: Knowledge, and The Alphabets. These are preliminary studies for murals presently hanging in the Library Reference rooms at 395 Wellington, St., Ottawa, PANL Building.

Alfred Pellan (May 16, 1906 - October 31, 1988), is an important 20th century Canadian, Quebec artist. Studies in Paris in 1926 led to the development of a personal syle incorporating fractured, abstract forms. He taught art in Montreal, and his later work included commissioned murals, stained glass works and mosaics.

Accession has been transferred from the National Library to the Art collection of Library and Archives Canada during the relocation of some Library offices and collections in February, 2006. The transfer was handled by Charlotte Luoma.
