Inscribed title on verso label. Additional inscription, verso, in sepia ink: An Indian with his Squaw and Papooses in his canoe, and a party of Canadian Voyageurs. The latter are shouting & singing on nearing the Fort. - Painted by Lieut. Becher, of the Hydrographer's Office at the Admiralty. He was employed in a aurvey of Lake Superior between 1815 & 1819, and gave this sketch to his friend John Allan, Naval Surgeon who was accompanying Lord Selkirk when he formed the Highland Colony at Red River, the nucleus of the present province of Manitoba"
