Map types include: Federal Electoral Districts (F.E.D.) with/without Enumeration Areas (E.A.), Distribution of population, Metropolitan Areas (M.A.) and Census Divisions (C.D.) / Census Subdivisions (C.S.D.) maps.
The maps and atlases -- including the FED/EA maps -- described in the linked lower-level descriptions constituted the reference collection maintained by Statistics Canada until 2007.
In contrast, the FED/EA maps in accession RG31M 79003/23 generally consist of an oversize map sheet conglomerate cut to the shape of the electoral district, with the enumeration areas within the electoral district hand-annotated.
Sub-sub-series also consists of a mostly-complete collection of the enumerator maps used for the 1961 census. These approximately 30,000 enumerator map card/books, nearly one for each enumeration area, were designed to used by enumerators in the field. See linked accession RG31M 79003/23 for details.
Sub-sub-series includes a booklet for each electoral district containing narrative descriptions of the enumeration area boundaries used for the 1961 census. The booklets often feature the number of farms and/or households, as well as the population, of the enumeration area in 1956 (or an estimation from 1959). The descriptions were also featured in the portable enumerator map book/card collection.Provenance:Additional information:Custodial history:Atlases and 22 loose maps transferred by Statistics Canada in 2007.
