The fonds contains documents, photographs and artwork produced or received by artist Caven Atkins over the course of his life and career, between 1907 and 2000. A paper and electronic (Excel format) inventory list is available for the art and photography material.

Dating roughly from 1928 to 2000, the 1.10 meters of textual records includes diaries, manuscripts, correspondence, printed material, memorabilia and some posthumous material.

The artistic material, dating from 1927 through the 1990's includes sketchbooks, individual drawings, caricatures, oil/acrylic sketches, miscellaneous commercial drawings and designs as well as some miscellaneous postcards, prints, photomechanical reproductions, greeting cards and photostats. Subject matter, for the most part, comprises abstract/non-representational drawings/studies. There are also some representational works including: celestial interpretations, canadian and american landscapes, botanical studies and aquatic/sea life studies. The caricatures are works depicting the artist done by friends or associates. The commerical designs are for store window decorations, wall or mural decorations, mirror designs/decorations, automobile trim and company business cards.

The photographic material of the fonds consists of some portraits of Caven Atkins, various family snapshots, photographs of his paintings, sculptures and various designs he submitted to various stores and companies. In addition, there are photos of his trips to Arizona, some photos of subject matter for painting, nature scenes, holiday snapshots, photos of show openings and receiving awards, and of the 50 year retrospective of his work held at the Art Gallery of Windsor. The material covers the period ca. 1907-1992, the majority dating to his long career as a painter, designer and sculptor.
