Series consists of records relating to Industrial Defence Board. These include; central registry files containing files related to Committees of the Board as well as Joint Sub-Committees; files on Defence Supply Panels; files from Canadian Embassies abroad; bound copies of the agenda and minutes of the executive and board meetings of the Industrial Defence Board; reports issued by various government agencies relating to war production and post-war industrial preparedness planning. Among these is a report entitled "Level of Industry to be Permitted in Germany." There are also copies of the "Bulletin" published by the Canadian Industrial Preparedness Association.

Canada. Industrial Defence Board : The Industrial Defence Board was created on April 20, 1948, in the atmosphere of postwar Canada ( P.C. 1739). It was established to act as an advisory body to the Department of National Defence on "all matters relating to the industrial war potential of Canada" (P.C. 1739). The Board was also charged with the responsibility of preparing an updated plan for industrial production in the event of war and of arranging liaisons between industry and the Canadian naval, military, and air forces. In addition, the Board advised on the location of industries and on the development, procurement, inspection, storage and distribution of material and equipment in the maintenance of reserve stocks. The Board was also heavily involved in the Joint U.S.-Canada Industrial Mobilization Planning Committee created in 1950. On March 15, 1949, the Industrial Defence Board was transferred from the Department of National Defense to the Department of Trade and Commerce (P.C. 1166). In 1951, the Board was dissolved with the creation of the Department of Defence Production , which absorbed its functions in addition to replacing the Department of Reconstruction and Supply.

The Chairman of the Board was Harry John Carmichael, Vice-President of Conroy Manufacturing Co. Limited, and the Vice Chairman was J. Edouard Simard, Vice-President of Marine Industries Limited, Sorel, Quebec. Other members of the Board included the three principal supply officers of the armed forces of Canada, the chairman of the Defence Research Board, the Deputy Minister of National Defence, and five additional members representing industry.
