This accession consists of material created by Mary Stanton during her 1932 trip to England Scotland and France as part of her participation in the Overseas Education League (OEL). The OEL was created by Major Frederick James Ney in 1919 (see Mikan record 159714). Mary Stanton was working as a nurse at Wellsley Hospital in Toronto prior to her trip, and resumed her work upon her return.

Mary Stanton : Mary Elizabeth Stanton Sheen was born in Toronto May 24, 1905. She was the daughter of Oliver Butler Stanton and Caroline (Carrie) Lawson Stanton. She graduated from Havergal Ladies College June 1924, afterwhich she began work in father's stationery store (O.B.Stanton Stationery) on Yonge St. In 1928 she entered nursing training at Wellesley Hospital, Toronto, and graduated with an R.N. June 1931. She began to work at Wellesley Hospital shortly after her graduation.
In June-August 1932, she took leave of her job, and participated in the Major Ney's trip to Scotland, England and France. She resumed her work at Wellesley Hospital until 1945.

One daughter, Susan Mary Sheen, born at Wellesley Hospital - May 24, 1946
Widowed July 3, 1966
Died June 28, 2002 in Toronto.
Buried in Stanton Family Plot, St. James Cemetery, Toronto
