DA VINCI'S INQUEST is a one hour dramatic production combining three genres: the police procedural, the medical thriller and the courtroom drama. The show centers around the cases dealt with by the Vancouver Coroner's Office and its senior coroner Dominic Da Vinci. In this episode Da Vinci picks up the investigation of the dead prisoner which terminates episode 15. Dominic takes control of the scene and moves forward with his investigation before giving it over to homicide. Early indications could be that it was suicide, but Sergeant Regan's names appears on the visitation roster and Shannon, Leary and Da Vinci must decide how to proceed in the face of turning a cop over to Internal Affairs. The pathology on this case leans towards suicide, but the detectives instincts lean towards a lynching. Evidence that the sheets in the cells where in the wrong place lead the investigators to involve, not only Kowalski, an informant responsable for Marks' imprisonment, but another inmate as well. The corrupt Sergeant Reagan is contacted by the other inmate and details of the murder are shared with him. Reagan suggests he keep what he has told him quite. Da Vinci and the investigators realizes that Reagan's involvement in the case will lead to the need for the inclusion of Internal Affairs. In the light of the imminent revelations of his involvement in the wrongful imprisonment of the now dead Marks, Sergeant Reagan commits suicide. A case of an elderly woman who dies in her home after a break and enter is also investigated. The autopsy reveals that she died of heart attack, not from heart disease however, but from intense psychological trauma - she was scared to death. The coroner disagrees and puts forward a ruling of a natural death, but Patricia Da Vinci, Dominic's ex-wife, is determined to have the crown prosecute on the basis of her pet theory. The grandson of the woman is eventually found to be the break and enter perpetrator, but the new acting sergeant decides that the scared to death homicide line is not worth their efforts. <46mn 8s>
