DA VINCI'S INQUEST is a one hour dramatic production combining three genres: the police procedural, the medical thriller and the courtroom drama. The show centers around the cases dealt with by the Vancouver Coroner's Office and its senior coroner Dominic Da Vinci. In this episode a three year old boy dies from a brain injury, at first it seems like a fall but the autopsy reveals there is a suspicious context which might indicate death by shaking. The investigation team is concerned that if it is one of the parents is guilty this poses a serious risk to the second child left in the family. The family is concerned about the investigative efforts of the police and seeks a restraining order against them. Da Vinci persists as he falls outside the restraining order because he is not part of the police force. He conducts an interview with the young sister and determines that the father is the primary suspect and that it is not safe in the home for the daughter. The father eventually confesses. Shannon is investigating a shooting which he believes is drug related. He discovers the dead man's girlfriend who claims to have witnessed the shooting, however, her first asccusation is false. Then girlfriend reveals that she was actually the dead man's ex-girlfriend, and that she purposefully misnamed the first suspect out of fear for the real killer whom she is actually dating. Upon re-interviewing the second suspect he claims the ex-girlfriend was the mastermind of the murder, and agrees to wear a wire to get a confession out of the girlfriend. This episode uses a different technique for representing the interrogation room employing a black and white low quality video to represent this part of the show. <46mn 8s>
