The J. Backstrom file contains a quarter bound, holographic text. It is a letter from Backstrom to an undisclosed "Sir," in which the author of the letter recounts his visit with a "wealthy friend and Philosopher, the Count Louis de Chazel, in the Island Mauritius in the year 1794: Deceased 1795" (quote taken from page 1 of this item). The letter concerns the processes of alchemy, the Rosicrucian Society, and the Philosopher's Stone. The binding is broken and the pages are brittle.

General note:

No biographical information on J. Backstrom could be found; however, in his own list of "the number of the fraternity of the Rocicrusian Society" on page 27 of this text, the name "Sigismundi Backstrom, M.D.London" appears. Perhaps the two were related.
