Johnson, Evelyn Helen Catherine : Evelyn Helen Catherine Johnson, also Eliza (Eva) Helen Charlotte Johnson, was born on the Six Nations Reserve in Upper Canada. She was the elder sister of Emily Pauline Johnson (1861-1913), daughter of Chief George Henry Martin Johnson (1816-1884) and Emily Susanna Howells, grand-daughter of Chief John Smoke Johnson (1792-1886) and Helen Martin. Evelyn Johnson was educated at Hellmuth College and worked in New York, N.Y. She published several articles about her family, including "The Martin settlement," "Chief John Smoke Johnson: Sakayengwaraton - Disappearing of the Indian summer mist," and "Grandfather and father of E. Pauline Johnson." When Evelyn Johnson died, her family home in Onondaga known as "Chiefswood," was "bequeathed [by her] as a home for indigent Indians."
