Contained here are typescripts and galleys for the pre-publication version of Ryder's Canadian Reference Sources: A Selective Guide. In the files, the working title is given as Guide to Canadian Reference Works (Canadian Library Association, 1972). File 1 is composed of photocopied galleys and page proofs with corrections. File 2 includes a typescript index. File 3-5 are photocopies of typescripts with holograph corrections.

Ryder, Dorothy E : Dorothy E. Ryder studied at the University of British Columbia and, after service overseas with the Canadian Armed Forces (Air Force) in World War II, she completed a Bachelor of Library Science at McGill University in 1952. She first worked at the University of Alberta in Edmonton and then the Department of Transport library in Ottawa. She was subsequently appointed to the post of Chief Librarian at the University of Alberta in Calgary (now the University of Calgary). In 1966, she joined the National Library and worked in the Public Services Branch as Reference Collection Development Specialist where she was responsible for developing the National Library's extensive resources in the field of reference works and bibliography. Active for many years in the Bibliographical Society of Canada, Dorothy E. Ryder is the author of numerous bibliographical articles and has also written biographies for the Dictionary of Canadian Biography. In 1979, the National Library published her Checklist of Canadian Directories, 1790-1950 / Répertoire des annuaires canadiens, 1790-1950. However her best known work in Canada and internationally is her Canadian Reference Sources: A Selective Guide (Ottawa: Canadian Library Association, 1973) and its Supplement (Ottawa: CLA, 1975). During 1980-81 she completed the second edition of this work. On May 22, 1981, Dorothy E. Ryder retired after 15 years in the Public Services Branch of the National Library.
