Mercury Press : The Mercury Press has been active since 1978, when it was established as Aya Press under the direction of Glynn Davies. The press changed hands twice in 1985, the second purchase being made by the current owners, Beverly and Donald Dauno. In 1990, Aya Press was removed from the imprint and replaced by Mercury Press. The remained the same, despite the nominal change; publication continued to favour literary fiction, poetry, Canadian murder mystery, and trade non-fiction. The press has received various awards and citations for design, Including the Alcuin and New York Design Awards. Noted Mercury titles include Cary Fagan's City Hall & Mrs. God (1991 a finalist for the City of Toronto Book Award, Carol Malyon's The Edge of the World (1992), shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best First Book, and Judith Fitzgerald's Rapturous Chronicles (1991 ), which received a nomination for the Governor General's Award. The press has issued over 170 titles since 1978. Published authors include Milton Acorn, Margaret Atwood. Marie-Claire Blais, bp Nichol, Sandra Shamas, and Jane Urquhart.
