The collection of photographs document and highlight daily life in remote Hudson Bay Company posts in the 1920s and 1930s with a candidacy not usually found in the period. The photographs, taken by Joe Ford, are mostly snapshots and are simply composed. There are some portraits of Inuit people and families which document their winter clothing, housing, means of transportation and general way of life. The photographs also capture the interaction between the HBC store workers, their families and the Inuit people in the towns and settlements where they lived. This is a unique collection of photographs.

Joe Ford used a small format camera (probably a Kodak Brownie) to take snapshots of everyday life and activities in the North. He took snapshots of himself, other HBC workers, his family, Inuit friends and Northern fauna. He documented a range of activities from work, plane deliveries of supplies, hunting, fishing, leisure activities and Northern winter sports like dogsledding.
