This sub-series comprises the textual records and sound recordings for "Straight from the Heart", Jean Chrétien's 1985 memoir, ghost-written by Ron Graham. It includes sound recordings from two sets of interviews with Jean Chrétien and accompanying verbatim transcripts, annotated by Graham.

The sub-series also holds annotated drafts of the book manuscript including one manuscript draft with annotations (Chapters 1 to 9 and Epilogue) edited by Charis Wahl of Key Porter Books Limited, with cover letter and additional notes from Key Porter Books, June 1985; and one manuscript draft with annotations (Chapters 1 to 10). Both manuscript drafts include post-it notes that were added by, it appears, more than one editor. Pages containing post-its have been photocopied, and photocopies interleaved with originals. In addition to above drafts is one manuscript draft consisting of two sample chapters with covering letter and book outline.

Also included in sub-series are two variations on the final Epilogue, two variations on the Acknowledgment and Preface with annotations; notes for revision of Chapter One, possibly written by or on behalf of Jean Chrétien, draft inserts, and revised galley proofs including one revised galley (Chapters 1 to 9) with annotations and cover letter from Key Porter Books, dated 12 to15 July 1985; one revised galley (Chapter 9) with annotations and inserts, dated 15 July 1985; and one revised galley with annotations(Chapters 1 to 9) including Preface and Table of Contents, dated 31 July 1985.

Partial transcript pages have been re-sleeved in Mylar with bond paper support.

Arrangement note:

The first set of sound recordings consist of fourteen audio cassettes, numbered consecutively, with a new number for each tape side, from 1 to 28. Sequential numbing of the 28 transcripts corresponds to sequential numbering of the audio cassettes.

The second set of sound recordings consist of four audio cassettes, numbered consecutively, with a new number for each tape side, from 1 to 8. Sequential numbering of the 8 transcripts corresponds to sequential numbering of the audio cassettes.
