Fonds consists of a master videotape of the documentary Live to Air, 46 unedited interviews of producers, directors, performers and other people who worked in the early days of Canadian television, taped for the documentary, interview transcripts and notes for two of the interviews.

McKenna, Jim, 1945- : Jim McKenna was born in 1945, and graduated from Sir George Williams University with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. He began his career in television while he was still a teenager, hosting a 1960s-1970s music series entitled Like Young, broadcast by Montreal station CFCF. The program was widely syndicated in the U.S. through Dick Clark Productions. McKenna took postgraduate courses with the intention of pursuing a career in clinical psychology but instead began his career in television production. He began writing and producing network variety specials and awards shows in Canada. McKenna has also done television work in the U.S., for example working on music shows featuring Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn, and in Australia, where he worked on a jazz show. When television shifted away from musical variety shows, McKenna began creating and producing special event programming for networks such as CTV and MGM-Turner Broadcasting and did comedy shows for the CBC and Comedy Central/Viacom. He wrote produced and directed the docudrama Sing Out Freedom Train, a 1995 Gemini Award nominee about the Underground Railroad. Among his other television productions are the series Antique Hunter, the travel series Avventura, the science-adventure series Mission: Earth, the music series Flipside, the special Tamarack's Ontario, featuring the folk group Tamarack, the special Live to Air, about the history of live television broadcasting in Canada, and Inside the Parole Board, a documentary special about dangerous offenders and their parole hearings.
