MacDonald, Thomas : Thomas MacDonald, born in 1784 or 1785 and buried in Gagetown in 1862, is the first New Brunswick-born artist known to be working in the lower St. John River valley during the early nineteenth century. Itinerant portrait artist, he travelled through the Gagetown and Fredericton areas of south central New Brunswick, doing watercolour paintings of prominent individuals and their families.

Gilbert, Elizabeth : Elizabeth Simonds was the daughter of James Simonds (1735-1831), one of the most prominent early settlers of Nova Scotia, the part that later became New Brunswick. Her father was from Massachusetts freeholder family and served in the Seven Years' War. He was promised 5000 acres and settled around the mouth of Saint John river in 1762.
He had 14 children among them Elizabeth, whose birth date is not known but who married Henry Gilbert in 1812. They had ten children, seven of whom lived to adulthood. Henry Gilbert (1784-1869) was engaged in various mercantile pursuits until 1847 when he retired.
