The fonds consists of 40 black and white photographic prints by Myfanwy Phillips. The photographs are from three projects: Working People, Life in a Downtown Neighbourhood; Grass Roots; and Rough Road to the North: Travels along the Alaskan Highway. Some of the photographs in the collection were used as illustrations in three books: Working People:Life in a downtown City Neighbourhood, by James Lorimer and Myfanwy Phillips (Toronto, James Lewis and Samuel, 1971); Grass Roots, by Heather Robertson. Photographs by Myfanwy Phillips (Toronto: James Lewis and Samuel, 1973); and Rough Road to the North; Travels along the Alaska Highway by Jim Christy (Toronto: Doubleday Canada, 1980).

Phillips, Myfanwy : Myfanwy Phillips was born in Dehra Dun India in 1945. She was educated at the Royal School Bath, England, but was self taught as an artist/painter. She worked for Crawfords Advertising Agency in London in 1964-65, and emigrated to Canada in 1966. She held her first solo exhibition in 1970 at the Roberts Gallery in Toronto. She designed a four colour serigraph in a signed edition of 200 to raise money for the South James Town Defence Fund, to help legal and other costs on behalf of the tenants. Directors on the board included Peter Akehurst, Jeremy Carver, June Callwood, Marilyn Cox, Jack Diamond, James Lorimer, and Colin Vaughan. She has paintings in the following collections: C.I.L., University of Waterloo, University of Western Ontario, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, Etobicoke Board of Education, Elizabeth Fry Society, and J. Walter Thompson Ltd, New York. She exhibited in the 100th annual exhibition of the O.S.A. and at the 23rd and 24th Annual Exhibition of Contemporary Canadian Art at the Art Gallery of Hamilton.
