Schuhplattergruppe Alpenland : The Schuhplattergruppen Alpenland was founded by Karl Bauer in 1952. Arriving in Canada in 1929, Karl Bauer first settled in Vancouver, where he was one of the founding members of the Schuhplattergruppe Edelweiss. He settled in Montreal in 1937, where together with Ann Scholz, who later became his wife, he began performing at various local events. By 1952, they had brought together six couples, who organized themselves into a formal group. Despite Karl Bauer's death in 1957, the group continued to perform. In 1965, the Schuplattergruppe Alpenland had its first dance competition. In 1966, it celebrated its "Fahnenweihe." At this time, also, it joined the Gauverband von Nordamerica, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in Montreal at the 5th International Gaufest.
