Interview with neuro-psychologist Dr. Ron Kaplan. Subjects discussed include: Kaplan’s expertise and some of the developments at a recent conference attended by both he and June. June shares some of the details of Terry’s injuries and the immediate repercussions of his near suffocation. Kaplan then discusses the physiological repercussions of post-traumatic injury; needs of the brain including oxygen in some parts, nutrients in others; memory of experience and the belief that memory is widely distributed throughout the entire brain; hypoxia and carbon monoxide poisoning; insurance companies and the right to sue as it pertains to ‘psychological’ injuries versus bodily injuries; founding programs of neurological practices that treat brain injured people; thin skull versus crumbling skull; Parkinson’s disease; declining brain path from repeated head injuries; the motor system versus the cognitive system; how sleep deprivation and alcohol can tell specialists the extent of the trauma; and ethics. <52mn>
