Film about the manufacturing process used in the creation of large blocks of ice for refrigeration. It shows: man following a horse on a frozen lake; two men sawing cakes of ice from the frozen lake; cakes of ice moving up on a conveyor and being stored in a large warehouse; three shots showing three steps of ice formation in a laboratory; close-up of a man with a beaker of liquid ammonia; man dips beaker in water; man removes ice-coated beaker; medium shot showing mineral salt which has collected in the centre of the cake of ice being removed by pipe suction, and substituted with fresh water; cakes put into metal forms and left in ammonia tanks for 24 hours; the cakes being lifted by hoists and being inserted into hot water tanks for easier removal from metal forms; metal forms them tipped sideways and cakes of ice slide down chute; medium shot of ice cakes sliding down chute and onto the floor of a large storage area; medium shot of pipes in the storage area frozen due to moisture in the air; extreme close-up of man chipping ice off the pipes; extreme close-up of demonstration of the transparency of the ice cake; and hand holding piece of paper behind the ice; paper reads "Hygeia Ice". This ice is cleaner and clearer than lake ice.
