Documentary on one of the Department of the Interior's annual expeditions to the Canadian Arctic and Greenland (also known as the Canadian Government annual relief and inspection voyage), onboard the S.S. Beothic, and with a focus on Arctic birds, studied by the National Museum of Canada's ornithologist, P.A. Taverner. Part 1: In Baffin Bay, includes: dogs on deck; Godhavn, Greenland with Inuit on deck; Melville Bay; icebergs; photographer climbing ladder to film ice scene; close-up of the Beothic's bow breaking through the ice; photographer sitting on a side board photographing ice flow; Dovekies feeding in water; North Devon Island; muskox; Taverner working on preparing specimens, and napping; semi-palmated Sandpiper on deck being chased by a pig; Taverner photographing sandpiper; seals and polar bear on ice flows; white bear cubs chained and awaiting shipment to a zoo. Part 2: In Hudson Bay, includes: schooner Fort York unloading cargo at Chesterfield; Inuk pointing at a herd of walrus; Inuit hunters in kayaks; Churchill and ruins of Fort Prince of Wales now an historic site; Arctic tundra at Churchill; Arctic Tern nesting; Arctic Loon; Taverner holding a baby Arctic Loon; Sandpipers nesting; Northern Phalarope in pond; White-crowned Sparrow; and Golden Plover. <27mn>
