Impressed by the films on Canada which he saw in Belfast and feeling that he could build a future for himself here, Malcolm McGuckin decided to emigrate and arrived in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in December 1949. After working on several farms in Manitoba the McGuckins moved to Winnipeg where they both obtained employment with a large department store. Missing the land, Mr. McGuckin soon began to tire of his job and when the opportunity of residing on a mink ranch came about he jumped at the chance. His enterprise has now expanded to the extent that he employs a Canadian family of five to help him raise and breed mink. Last year (1962) he marketed 1,600 mink pelts which brought an average price of $17. each. His gross income in 1962 was over $27,000. Their home, which is fully paid for, is valued at $25,000.
