Description:

In 1926, 18-year-old Edgar Christian; his second cousin, the eccentric Jack Hornby; and Harold Adlard were all part of an ill-prepared team that undertook a fateful expedition to the Great Barrens in the northern Canadian Arctic. Mixing contemporary footage with maps and other valuable archival sources, the diary of Edgar Christian is recreated. The tragic story of this expedition takes us from Edmonton where Harold joined the trip, to the Athabasca River and Lake Athabasca, from Fort Chipewyan to the Slave River and the Great Slave Lake, through Pike's Portage toward Artillery Lake, the Lockhart River and the Hambury portage path where the men moved upward into the Barrens to meet their fate. Interviews with Alex Hall, canoeing guide, Clive Powell-Williams, author, and Wilred Williams, relative of Edgar Christian, among others, add to the documentary's contemporary relevance. <52mn>
