This is a report on the activites of the United Nations. This deals with efforts to help the world's needy children and the efforts to achieve world peace. Henri Hauck of France, Arthur Altmeyer of the U.S. and R.B. Curry of Canada express their respective countries' support of the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and give their opinions on how long-range success can best be achieved. Mrs. Alva Myrdahl, principal director of the UN department of social affairs, gives assurance that there will be long-range UN funding for needy children and that a mechanism will be put in place to handle the details. Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, speaking to young delegates at a UN conference at Lake Success in April 1950, states: "I have the hope that the threat . . . of extermination . . . may be the driving force which may make us actually willing to give up some of our national sovereignty, willing to really work . . . as neighbours . . . in a world that has to learn to live together." Dr. Leon Steinig, a director in the UN department of social affairs, talks about a recent meeting with Albert Einstein. He says that he found Einstein very concerned about the world situation and the need for people with authority to find a way out of the present world situation. He reads a message from Einstein to the UN, pleading for world peace. Trygve Lie, Secretary-General of the UN, talks about a forthcoming trip to various world capitals in the cause of peace. <10mn>
