Description:

A reconstruction of one of the many incidents which occurred in the big gale of 1937, the film shows how ship-to-shore radio service safeguards the lives of seamen. The film develops the use of "story" and "actors" started in the film NIGHT MAIL, which reached its peak in the realist full-length fictional feature and which was to distinguish British theatrical films in the war and early postwar years. The voice of the unseen commentator disappears almost entirely and a greater use is made of natural direct-recorded speech, in this case that of the Aberdeen trawlermen. <30mn>
