Filmed over a period of one and a half years, the film emerges as a haunting and powerful portrayal of an aged woman's life with her 40-year-old emotionally disturbed son. Throughout the film are recorded the small gestures, actions and reactions that set up and define their relationship. All day long she works, her ordinary chores of milking cows or chopping wood are rendered extraordinary by the way in which they are performed. Ever part of her life is embued with a sense of ritual and spirit. The son, always menacing and withdrawn, spends his day playing with the cat and watching his mother work. One day, the house explodes with violence. The son smashes much that his mother considers precious. In her pain, she expresses her feelings of worthlessness and sadness, but also her determination to carry on. <45mn>Language:EnglishNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
