Includes numerous sequences on B-52 jet bombers taxiing with the X-15 under one wing, taking off, in flight, and dropping the X-15. The X-15 is shown in flight, gliding, and landing on Rogers Dry Lake. The pilot of the X-15 is seen operating controls. Included are flashbacks to the flights of earlier models, the X-1 and X-2 rocket planes. Shown are various tests being carried out on a space suit involving a rocket sled and an ejection set-up with a slow motion sequence on the dummy pilot flying up and the parachute opening. Various sequences show the construction of the X-15; flight simulators; and pilot testing. Vice-President Richard M. Nixon unveils the first X-15.
