Described by the RECON project.
The white clapboard house with inset monumental pole (far right) belonged to Chief Wakas. The poles figures, top to bottom, represent Thunderbird (Lord of the Upper World), Killer Wale (Lord of the Undersea World), Wolf, Wise one (the human figure), Cannibal Bird, Bear, and Raven. The pole is currently on display at the Canadian Museum of History in the Grand Hall exhibit.
Monumental poles (previously known as totem poles) are tall structures typically made of red cedar and carved with figures by the First Nations of the Northwest Coast.
