Paul is captured by the Germans, however, and loses track of Mary. After the war, he emigrates to the United States in the company of Zandow the Great, a professional German weightlifter he has met during his captivity in Germany. Paul looks everywhere for Mary and finally finds her in a small town. They declare their love for each other, but Mary's father, Parson Brown, objects to Paul because he works in the music hall.
