Television documentary hosted by Jan Rubes on Ernest Thompson Seton, artist, naturalist and writer of some of the world's most popular animal stories. Through stills of Setons' art and publications on woodcraft and animals; quotations (read by William Hutt); and voice-over narrative (by Donald Davis); this documentary conveys the reverence for natural and animal life that made Seton a contributor to the science of animal behavior and outlines the events leading to his founding of the Woodcraft Indians, an organization for boys and girls, and later his leadership in founding the Boy Scouts of America. Dramatized versions of Seton's stories about the killing of a wolf and a ram, in addition to stills of his animal illustrations (notably the allegorical "Triumph of the Wolves"), illustrate his belief that nature will turn against man if he tries to conquer and destroy it. Notable black and white stills include: Seton at various stages of his life; Seton's parents and contemporaries, including Lord Baden-Powell founder of the Boy Scout Movement in Britain; and the homestead near Winnipeg shared with a brother. Notable shots include: a hunting party in the early 1900s; the E.T. Seton Park near Don Valley, Toronto; the estate in Connecticut where he lived with his wife and daughter Anya, who became a novelist; and the Seton Institute in New Mexico, where he lived in harmony with the Indians of that region. <60mn>
