Young socialite "Jerry" McKay enjoys toying with the men who amuse her, but soon finds that this pastime can have unpleasant consequences. She reluctantly agrees to marry her foppish admirer Louis after losing a bet that he will cry out in fear during a harrowing car ride. But no sooner has Jerry told her father of her engagement than she decides to accompany him on a dangerous business trip. Along with her three carefree friends, Jerry travels to Kern Valley where Mr. McKay's dam construction project is jeopardized by local citizens. Once there, the four young ladies disrupt work at the estate and quickly raise the ire of project manager James Warren. Indignant at Warren's rudeness to her, Jerry pledges to make Warren fall in love and propose to her before she leaves the estate. It doesn't take long for Jerry's plan to work, and Warren is soon smitten; much to her surprise, however, Jerry has found that she has fallen in love too. Eventually, Warren does propose to Jerry, but before she is able to reply they are interrupted and Warren learns of Jerry's duplicity. Complications prevent Warren and Jerry from resolving their misunderstanding and Jerry seems destined to return home where she will marry Louis. At the last minute, however, Jerry appears at Warren's home, unable to leave without him, and the two are reunited. <70mn>
