This film was made about the school of Ashley Green typical of many other small schools in towns in Britain. School teacher Mrs. James provides the voiceover narration and is shown during a typical workday with her students at the school. Many of the children there are living with foster parents because they have been evacuated from their homes during wartime. There is footage of Mrs. James walking to the school, stopping along the way to make sure there is extra milk for the children, children running to school, another teacher who takes care of the youngest students, Mrs. James is seen teaching three different classes in three different classrooms, two classes indoors, the other class outside at work on the school garden and the children outside at lunchtime. English and mathematics are taught first because they are the most important. Mrs. James attends to some concerns of foster parents who are worried that one of their child's shoes are worn out. Mrs. James asks the children if they have any ideas about how to help. The children are shown helping with the war effort, knitting clothes and collecting papers, tins and bottles. After class, the children go with Mrs. James into the woods to collect wood chips after the lumbjercaks have cut down the trees. At the end of the day, Mrs. James is shown marking all of the children's work from that day. <11mn 17s>
