General note:

Described by the MSTRCAGE project.
The North-West Rebellion (or North-West Resistance) was a five-month insurgency against the Canadian government, fought mainly by the Métis and their First Nations allies.
The Battle of Fish Creek was also known as the Battle of Tourond's Coulée.
In the 1870's, Gabriel Dumont started a ferry service on the South Saskatchewan River just south of Batoche, at a location appropriately named Gabriel's Crossing.
Captain John French was a soldier and NWMP officer. He was born in Ireland in 1843, the son of John French and Isabella Hamilton. French died May 12, 1885 at Batoche (Sask.).
