Record information – Details Fonds/collection:ONTARIO FILM INSTITUTEAccession:1977-0204Media:FilmPart:1 of 1Production date:1940Description:A look at the past record of the pilots of the RCAF in World War I and in peacetime between the wars.~With the outbreak of World War II, the recruitment of a new generation of pilots is necessary. The Commonwealth Air Training Plan is the means established to train these new recruits. Across Canada, preparations are made to facilitate this training: assembly workers work on planes used in training and flying schools, training centres and hangars are established.~The film follows the training program for pilots from young men coming in as raw recruits until they graduate as flyers with a Pilot Wings Presentation Ceremony. The young pilots followed receive their wings from Air Marshal Bishop. Also seen are the training of gunners, bomb aimers and mechanics.~Among the planes shown are: SE 5s; a Walrus F/B; a Stranraer F/B; Siskins; a Fleet Finch; a Harvard Fairey Battle; and Ansons.~The film ends with new flyers from Canada, New Zealand and Australia ready for war.Language:EnglishNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
