Radio interview of Harry Mayerovitch about his career as an artist with the Wartime Information Board during the Second World War. The interview is conducted as part of programming related to the 50th anniversary of D-Day. He talks about: his job; how he came to be hired by John Grierson for the Wartime Information Board; his becoming art director for the Graphic Division of the National Film Board; the posters he did for the Canadian war effort; some of his favourite posters of the era, such as "I Was a Victim of Careless Talk" and a poster about the fall of Italy; the influence of social realism and the Soviet style of political art; the role of the Canadian posters in promoting the war effort; the importance of communicating ideas; the role of wartime art in conveying ideas about the welfare of people; the responsibility of the artist; the relationship of art and propaganda; his also being a cartoonist and architect; the posters and cartoons commissioned by government departments, including the anti-venereal disease campaign of the Department of National Defence; and places where his posters are preserved, including the National Archives of Canada and the National Film Board as well as in his own collection.
