Footage of Lester B. Pearson at memorial service and visit to Shorncliffe military cemetery at St. Martin's, Folkestone, England. Reel 14A, which is silent, shows: honour guard at memorial service; Pearson and others in procession; Pearson standing with head bowed; memorial for World War One veterans; families of veterans and some veterans lay wreath; note on wreath reads "Proud Remembrance from Canadian Veterans Association of the United Kingdom"; the mayor of Folkestone lays a wreath; flags are lowered in honour of the war dead; views of several Canadian airmen and soldiers, including "16584, 2nd Air Mech., W.C. Alderman, Royal Flying Corps, 21st October 1916" and "154592, Private, D.A. Warner, Infantry"; and a bouquet of flowers with note "From the Commander and All Ranks Dover/Shornecliffe Garrison". Reel 14, with sound, consists of: memorial procession entering graveyard and moving into position in front of monument; Pearson standing with his wife; the mayor leads the annual procession and gives a speech about the importance of remembering the war dead, praising the Canadians who came overseas to fight in the First World and introduces one of the Canadian veterans who is present, Lester B. Pearson. Pearson speaks about: his memories of being on St. Martin's Plains more than 55 years before; his training there for a few months; his being shipped one rainy night in July 1915 across the Channel; and the desire by the soldiers to make a better and more peaceful world. Roll 15 continues with silent footage of Pearson at memorial and in procession walking through cemetery. Bugler plays last taps (also without sound). There are shots of St. Martin's camp, with sound, as Pearson describes what it looked like in 1915 and his training there. Roll 16 (silent) consists of shots of the barracks in the camp, the countryside, the memorial service and people looking at names on the gravestones.
