Film of part of the visit of British Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin, Edward, the Prince of Wales, and Prince George to Canada. It shows part of the visit to Ottawa, Quebec City, Montreal, Niagara Falls, Fort Erie and Toronto. Footage identified on leader as Prince Wales Montreal Roll 3: the Prince of Wales wearing a kilt; the Prince of Wales salutes; Prince George in naval uniform; Lieutenant Governor Perodeau; Royal 22nd Regiment guard of honour; and the Prince of Wales going up stairs, into a building with other dignitaries. Footage identified on leader as Prince Wales Quebec Roll 5: close-up of William Lyon Mackenzie King; the Prince of Wales and others walk down a short gangplank; the Prince greets a military official; and the Prince of Wales saluting and inspecting some soldiers; and s ; getting into a carriage. This is the end of reel 3. Reel 4, identified on the leader as The Peace Bridge Roll 2, starts with: cars going over a bridge; motorcade escort; passing under a stone gate; marching troops (footage is dark); shot of a bridge; shot of a motion picture cameraman in a light-coloured suit, filmed from behind, cranking a camera on a tripod as he films Niagara Falls. The text printed through on the leader says this is Roll 5 Niagara Falls and Peace Bridge. There are more shots of Niagara Falls; people in fancy dress; Niagara Falls and tramway beside it; crowds. The text Peace Bridge Roll 4 is printed through on leader and the following footage shows: large billboard for the International Peace Bridge and view of the approach to the bridge on the occasion of the official opening of the bridge linking Buffalo, New York and Fort Erie, Ontario by the Prince of Wales; the Prince of Wales inspecting troops; motion picture cameraman in background; Prince of Wales speaks to someone and walks toward camera; car travelling on bridge; the British visitors meeting an American delegation on the bridge; longshot of people leaving building and getting into car; motion picture cameraman and still photographers near large building, possibly a train station; train platform; locomotive. 1. Crown material over 50 years - copyright expired.~2. On 23 July 1927 Prime Minister Baldwin, Prince George and Edward, Prince of Wales, left Britain on board the ship Empress of Australia to begin the visit to Canada. They arrived in Quebec on July 30. They visited Montreal on August 1 and Ottawa on August 2. The Prince of Wales opened Union Station in Toronto on August 6. The Prince of Wales and U.S. Vice President Dawes opened the International Peace Bridge, linking the U.S. and Canada at Fort Erie, Ontario and Buffalo, New York, on August 7. The British visitors left for Western Canada on August 8 and they left for Britain, aboard the ship Empress of Scotland, on September 7.~3. There is no head title on the film, but the probable head title appears out of sequence following the unveiling of the statue to Laurier~4. Much of the footage in the first sequence, at the outdoor reception is dark, shot from too far away to distinguish faces and there are few clear shots of the princes. Some of the footage is also indistinct because of poor focus and contrast and there are soft-focus and dark sequences at intervals later in the film.~5. Intertitle about the unveiling of the Laurier statue is printed backwards in the video copy.~6. Length and order of scenes on the reel indicates that this footage is assembled out of the correct order. ~7. Roll numbers mentioned in the description are on the film leader.
